Andy Dunn has claimed that Sean Dyche is “on trial” with The Friedkin Group reluctant to make any immediate decision on the future of the Everton boss.

The Toffees begin their journey under the TFG ownership with a home encounter against Chelsea on 22 December which will be Dyche’s first “trial” game as the board weighs up their options on his future as mentioned in the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (22 December, pg 65).

Shouts for Dyche to be sacked have been ongoing but Chris Sutton claimed he must stay at Everton if the Toffees want to avoid relegation and TFG look unlikely to differ from that opinion as it stands at the current moment.

Dunn, via the Sunday Mirror, said: “The words at the top of TFG’s website give you the clue – “The Friedkin Group is a privately held consortium of businesses and investments”. They are investing in Everton and will want to see a return from Everton.

“That is why they will be ruthless. And that is why Sean Dyche will be on trial from the moment his side take the field against Chelsea at Goodson today.”

Questions will undoubtedly be asked over the decision to keep Dyche in a job given how poorly the Toffees have fared so far this season but he is certainly at last chance saloon given the new of his “trial” at the club.

TFG evidently want to give the ex-Burnley boss time to turn things around at Goodison Park before making any knee-jerk reaction when it comes to his sacking.

With that said, things have to start changing for Everton if they are to avoid a relegation dogfight and that starts with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

It will be a tough test for the Toffees, especially given the expected absence of Dwight McNeil but if Dyche is to keep his job, a solid performance is the bare minimum.

Everton have been guilty of sitting far too deep in encounters and that has to change if they are to start picking up results and failure to do so will surely see Dyche’s “trial” end with a sacking.
