Arsenal have suffered a double injury blow after their confident win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Gabriel Jesus scored twice to make it five goals in two starts, while Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice also got in on the action. Arsenal remain in the chasing pack after a difficult month or so, but it was an important win to kick off what will be a tough festive period.
It’s always tricky for teams to remain consistent with so many games packed in, and injuries make it no easier. The Gunners have been dealing with plenty of injuries of late, but after getting Riccardo Calafiori back, they now look to have lost two more.
Bukayo Saka picked up an injury against Palace, and loan winger Raheem Sterling picked up an injury when preparing for the game. Arteta confirmed after the game: “And Raheem as well, we lost Raheem yesterday. We don’t know for how long as well. So, to lose two players in 24 hours is not good. Sterling has seldom featured for Arsenal, but he will surely have had a part to play over Christmas, and he still might depending on the severity of the setback. Saka’s injury will be of even bigger concern for Arsenal, given his importance to the team, and scans will need to take place before anything is revealed.
Asked if Saka’s injury is the same as his last, Arteta added: “I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same one, or the same leg. It’s the third minor injury; I don’t know how big this one is going to be but he already had two of them.”
