Manchester City will block any move for West Ham target James McAtee in the winter, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 22 December (page 56) that Man City want keep hold of the 22-year-old even though he’s played just 333 minutes of senior football this season.

It is understood that the Irons want to sign the attacking midfielder but unless Pep Guardiola is able to sign a replacement in the coming weeks, he won’t be heading to the London Stadium.

Who will West Ham sign in the January transfer window?

It seems like it won’t be easy for West Ham to sign McAtee in the coming weeks, with a deal for the ex-Sheffield United loanee dependent upon whether or not Man City can sign a replacement.

Given the fact that Rodri is injured, Guardiola’s side is in rotten form and they have unlimited wealth, it seems likely that City will be able to snap up a new midfielder.

However, Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten cannot rely on that because if they do wait around for City to sign someone, they could end up leaving it too late and unable to strengthen the squad going into the business end of the season.

It might not be a busy month in terms of incoming at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui spent a lot of money in the summer but a striker might be needed due to Niclas Fullkrug’s fitness woes.

On 20 December, TBR Football reported that Botafogo striker Igor Jesus is someone of interest to the Hammers but he’d cost £30million and is also wanted by other teams in the Premier League.

In other West Ham news, this player is willing to take a pay cut to join the Irons permanently.
