There is no doubt that last night’s defeat to Atletico Madrid was a highly frustrating affair for FC Barcelona. The Blaugranes were clearly the more threatening side for most part of the game, and missed several chances to increase their lead before the [Colchoneros staged a comeback](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/pedri-9-5-lewandowski-5-0-barcelona-1-2-atletico-madrid-player-ratings/) and got the winning goal in the very last minute of the game.
As a result, none of the Barcelona players were too keen to speak to the media right after the end of the match. However, as [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20241221/1002375563/cubarsi-derrota-mas-dura-temporada.html) has reported, Pau Cuabrsi appeared in front of Barca One microphones, and lamented this defeat that can have significant implications for his team’s La Liga campaign:
**“This might be the toughest defeat of the season. We were playing a great game, but we lost because of some small details.”**
Following this defeat and the team’s results in the last seven games, the Barcelona defender was quite keen to go into the Christmas break:
**“The team will benefit from a break to reset and disconnect.”**
The young defender also admitted that the responsibility for this defeat lay at their own feet:
**“We made individual mistakes at the back and lacked precision upfront. This defeat is inexplicable, but it’s our fault. We’re upset, but we have to move past this game to start 2025 with everything we’ve got.”**
**“We wanted to come out strong from the start because if we’re switched on from the beginning, we have a better chance, but two silly mistakes cost us.”**
Both the goals that were scored by Atletico came from mistakes made by Barcelona. First, it was Casado’s poor clearance that fell into Rodrigo de Paul’s way, and the Argentine took a shot from outside the box to give his side the equalizer.
Then Cubarsi himself was unable to block a cross put in by Molina, which was converted by Sorloth in the very last minute of the game to give his side a victory.
Hopefully, these players will have learned their lessons from this defeat, and will keep their concentration in the coming matches to ensure they take advantage of their lead.
