Newcastle United fans were treated to an early Christmas present with a 4-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.
The dominant win at Portman Road capped off a superb week for Newcastle United which saw Eddie Howe’s side win three games back-to-back.
Newcastle booked their spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals by beating Brentford away from home and have also answered their critics when it comes to facing weaker opposition in the league.
Alan Shearer questioned Newcastle’s attitude earlier this month with the legendary striker warning players they cannot only turn up for the big games. Players have responded superbly to that criticism.
Wins over Leicester and Ipswich – who are both in the bottom five – have propelled Newcastle up to seventh in the Premier League table before Sunday’s fixtures.

Eddie Howe’s January transfer message to Newcastle fans
There has been mixed news about Newcastle’s January transfer plans.

The Magpies continued to be hamstrung by Profit and Sustainability Rules with suggestions that Newcastle have to sell to buy next month.
Newcastle want to sign a right winger with sporting director Paul Mitchell identifying several targets, but the January transfer budget appears to be worryingly small.
After beating Ipswich 4-0 on Saturday, Gary Lineker asked Howe about Newcastle’s January plans and his response will worry fans.
On BBC Match of the Day, Howe said: “I think the message towards the January transfer window is that we probably at this moment in time in our journey, we need to concentrate on the players we do have and get the very best out of them.
“Rather than looking externally.”
How much can Newcastle United spend in January?
Early reports suggested that Mitchell will have a £70m budget at Newcastle after Newcastle walked away from a similarly priced deal for Marc Guehi in the summer.
However, it now seems that the summer budget was also dependent on players leaving and that will continue to be the case in January.

Miguel Almiron is expected to leave in 2025, while Callum Wilson was another star up for sale before his injury made a move unlikely.
There is a growing feeling that Newcastle could sell a star player in 2025 to raise funds, and if that doesn’t happen in January then incomings are sadly looking unlikely.
