Newcastle United cement place as the fourth best performing Premier League team this season

Opinion

Newcastle United up against any other Premier League team, measuring success.

How do we gauge it?

Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?

For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.

How many matches you are winning AND how many you are losing.

So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season.

**After just over four months of the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won and lost, in Premier League AND domestic cup competition (as of the morning of 22 December 2024):**

14 and 1 Liverpool

12 and 2 Arsenal

11 and 3 Chelsea

11 and 5 Newcastle United

9 and 5 Forest

9 and 6 Villa

9 and 7 Man City

9 and 7 Tottenham

8 and 6 Brighton

8 and 6 Man U

8 and 9 Brentford

7 and 5 Bournemouth

7 and 5 Fulham

6 and 8 West Ham

6 and 8 Palace

5 and 9 Leicester

4 and 7 Everton

4 and 14 Southampton

3 and 12 Wolves

2 and 10 Ipswich

As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are the fourth most successful, when it comes to winning and (not) losing.

So far in 2024/25, NUFC only behind [Liverpool](https://www.themag.co.uk/2024/12/liverpool-fans-comments-on-newcastle-united-and-the-3-3-draw-at-st-james-park-interesting/), Chelsea and Arsenal.

Yet some Newcastle United fans have been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…

In domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United have won more matches AND lost less, than all of Man City, Tottenham, Man U and Villa.

You get the media and some Newcastle fans still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last ten United matches (all competitions), have seen six wins, two draws and only the two defeats.
