Gary Lineker makes surprise 'win the league' Nottingham Forest comparison

Gary Lineker can see similarities between Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest and Leicester City’s title-winning side of 2016.

The Reds made it three Premier League wins in a row for the second time this season as they toppled Brentford 2-0 on Saturday. Goals from Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga saw the Bees fall to their first home defeat of the campaign.

Fourth-placed Forest have been particularly impressive on their travels this term. And Lineker says the way head coach Nuno sets his team up reminds him of his old club a few years ago.

“I see similarities with the way Leicester won the league,” the former Foxes striker said on Match of the Day. “I'm not saying Forest will win the league, but a similar style of play.”

Match of the Day pundit Ashley Williams believes Nuno has the Reds well suited to picking up results on the road. Victory at the Gtech Community Stadium was their fifth away win of the season.

“I think it plays into the way that Nuno sets them up,” he said. “They're so comfortable without the ball.

“They've got a strong spine in the team. They don't need to dominate possession at all but when they do win the ball back they get it forward very early, quickly and with purpose. They don't always have the ball, but as soon as they get it they've got one thing on their mind.

“They don't hang about; they're not slow in their build-up with Nuno. When they do get the ball, they want to get it forward quickly. Most of the time when they get possession, it ends in some sort of chance. They're not messing around with the ball, they just get it forward quickly.”
