Plymouth Argyle target Premier League midfielder loan move

Plymouth Argyle are keen on re-signing Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle on loan in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

Plymouth Argyle are interested in luring the Premier League man back to Home Park this winter. His contract at Molineux expires in the summer of 2026.

Cundle, 22, had a spell with the Pilgrims during the first-half of last season and made 27 appearances in all competitions, 24 of which came in the Championship, and he scored five goals. He then spent the rest of the campaign with fellow second tier outfit Stoke City.

As per Witcoop on X, the player is wanted by Wayne Rooney next month as the Devon outfit look to bolster their ranks.

Plymouth Argyle drew 3-3 at home to Middlesbrough this weekend and are sat bottom of the Championship table. They are in the drop zone with Cardiff City and Oxford United.

Landing Cundle would be an impressive coup by Plymouth Argyle if they were able to get him back.

He would give the Pilgrims more competition and depth in the middle of the park and inject more quality into their ranks.

Cundle played for Warrington Town and Burnley before joining Wolves as a teenager in 2014.

He has since risen up through the academy ranks of the Midlands outfit and has been a regular for them at various different youth levels.

The Warrington-born man has made seven first-team appearances so far and has also been loaned out to Swansea City in the past.

His chances of nailing down a regular place in their starting XI in the top flight are slim though and an exit back to Plymouth Argyle would help him get more game time.

What now?

Cundle has only played once so far for Wolves this term in the cup.

He needs to leave to get some minutes and would be ideal for Plymouth Argyle.

Time will tell to see whether they are able to strike a deal.

In the meantime, Rooney’s side will be looking to climb off the bottom of the league. They face Coventry City away on Boxing Day.
