PL game is a prelude to the cup semi-final
Tottenham fought hard in their seven-goal-thriller to get beyond Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
Spurs were drawn against Liverpool for the semi-finals, meaning that Sunday’s Premier League match will be the first of three games the two sides will play against one another over the next 7 weeks.
Historically Tottenham have struggled for wins against Liverpool. However, with players returning from injury throughout January, their Premier League match will provide an opportunity to get an understanding of Arne Slot’s Liverpool before the two-legged knockout fixture.

Alan Shearer predicts Tottenham vs Liverpool
Alan Shearer has given his thoughts on Tottenham’s next game. In his column for Metro.co.uk, Shearer said “I think Liverpool will have enough to win here. It could be a cracking game. Spurs are really entertaining and good to watch. It must drive the manager mad at times. But they are struggling with injuries and conceding a few.
“They play Liverpool on Sunday and then in a couple of weeks in the Carabao Cup.
“It’s a good chance for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, but the league is the bread and butter. The chairman will want them to climb the league because of the money that it’ll bring in but they have got injuries and that’s why I think Liverpool will win the game.

A competitive mindset will lead to cup success
With a relentless fixture schedule and Spurs’ squad being decimated by injuries, it is understandable that many feel prioritising certain fixtures is necessary.
However, despite Spurs still being without Guglielmo Vicario or their first-choice centrebacks, Tottenham must go into every game believing that their system can earn them the win.
Tottenham fans will be desperate to see the club end its trophy drought, but to finish the season far from the top of the Premier League table in return, would not be a step forward for this team.
