Morgan Rogers has explained why he had to leave Manchester City having spent four years at the club from the age of 17.
Rogers compounded City’s misery on Saturday as the forward managed to grab a goal and assist against his former club. Pep Guardiola’s team have now lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions after Aston Villa beat them 2-1 in the Midlands.
The former City academy star set up Jhon Duran’s opener before adding a second for the hosts. Speaking ahead of the game, the 22-year-old explained why he was forced to leave City.

Morgan Rogers on why he left Man City
Morgan Rogers admitted that he didn’t quite make the grade during his time at Man City and he had to move elsewhere to get the opportunities he needed. Rogers told TNT Sports: “I didn’t quite get to that level to take that step there, but it helped me take that step somewhere else. And those valuable experiences helped me become the player I am.”
Rodgers’ performance left Man City fans questioning how he got away as he ran the show at Villa Park. He demonstrated a complete display as he managed two goal contributions, two key passes, 56 touches and eight ground duels won.

The youngster revealed his time at the Etihad was still an invaluable experience and certainly helped him grow as a player. “There’s a load of incredible quality and talent there. So to stick out as one is very hard and only a few have done that. It’s good for a learning experience, and that’s what I used it as, to soak up information, to play around players, and to say that I’ve got to play and train with some of the best players in the world is something that could never be taken away from me,” he added.
What Pep Guardiola said about Morgan Rogers
Pep Guardiola explained how he is a big fan of Rogers and that during his time in Manchester, the right moment never presented itself to give him the chance to get first-team minutes. Guardiola told the media: “Do you know what happened? There are some teams that won the treble, won the quadruple [four trophies in a season in 2019], sometimes it’s the right tempo, it’s the right time, can give the chance.
“Everybody knows how good Morgan [Rogers] is and a lot of players who are loaned or sold by the club they were at that age where we have the players that we had to allow us to create the more successful eight years at our club.”
