"Getting through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup was one of our big aims. And our league form needed to improve. So, it's brilliant to get back-to-back wins.

At the end of the interview, Lineker congratulated Howe on the result. He referred to how Alan Shearer, one of the pundits on the show, will be easier to deal with after seeing his former club pick up maximum points.

Former England and Leicester City striker Lineker said: "Speaking of Newcastle fans, we've got one in the studio tonight - Alan Shearer. I just want to say thank you for that performance because he's so much better company when you've played well and win. So, thanks very much Eddie and congratulations."

United return to action on Boxing Day when they welcome Aston Villa to St James' Park.
