Why Mario Lemina is not in Vitor Pereira's first Wolves squad today to face Leicester City -…

Wolves are taking on Leicester City today in the Premier League.

It’s Vitor Pereira’s first game in charge following the club’s sacking of Gary O’Neil last weekend.

Fans are optimistic that this appointment will help the club get back on the straight and narrow, following an abysmal start to the 2024/25 season.

Wolves are currently 19th in the table, and really need to start picking up points.

Pereira must shore up the defence, and start getting more out of players who have been way below their usual standards.

Wolves fans have noticed today that Mario Lemina – a player who has very much struggled this term – is not in the matchday squad to face Leicester.

Amid speculation, journalist Liam Keen has now shared why he’s missing out.

Wolves have just released their starting XI to face Leicester and many fans immediately noticed that Lemina was nowhere to be seen.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Some had speculated that Lemina had been dropped by Pereira, who may have been looking to shake things up a bit for his first game.

Lemina got into an altercation with Jarrod Bowen after the defeat to West Ham United and then lost the captaincy in one of Gary O’Neil’s final actions before his sacking.

But that loss of discipline isn’t the reason for him missing out today, nor is his overall form.

Liam Keen reports on X: “Mario Lemina has a small knock and not involved today.”

Keen adds it is a ‘calf issue’ for Lemina.

So it’s an all-Brazilian affair today for Wolves in midfield, with Joao Gomes and Andre playing in a partnership, with Tommy Doyle on the bench.

Frustration for Lemina

So Lemina misses out today through injury and that will surely be massively frustrating for the Gabon international.

It’s Pereira’s first game, and he’ll have no doubt wanted to make a big impression in the new manager’s first game, especially given his struggles this season under O’Neil.

Gome and Andre will play today and they now have the chance to establish themselves as Pereira’s first-choice pairing.
