Alan Shearer blown away by 'unbelievable' piece of skill he saw by Newcastle United player…

· December 22 2024, 13:30

**Newcastle United were so good yesterday that it was impossible to mention everything that caught the eye in our post-match write-up.**

We could have pointed out a couple of poor moments but chose to let them slide as we didn't want to take anything away from the good vibes.

However, we also omitted a couple of positive moments, like we criminally overlooked just how good Sandro Tonali was yet again in that deeper role.

In the final ten minutes, Tonali was so deep there were literally times when he was the closest player to Martin Dubravka. Before that though, he was pouncing on loose passes from teh Ipswich side, predicting where they'd play the ball next and intercepting like he was Mystic Meg with a number 8 on his back.

Bruno Guimaraes hit the pass of the season yesterday

----------------------------------------------------

His midfield partner Bruno Guimaraes had a blinder of a game too and almost added his second goal of the season with a header that struck the base of the post.

It came after the Brazilian put in a gut-busting run from his own box while his teammates played delicious one-touch football before Anthony Gordon crossed in a lovely ball to find the head of Bruno who connected well but couldn't find the back of the net.

As good as that one, there was one pass that Bruno played, which was simply sensational. A first-time hit with the outside of his boot on the half-volley right across the pitch for Gordon to run onto. Gordon squandered the opportunity, denying a clear Goal of the Season contender for the assist alone.

Alan Shearer was in awe of Bruno's amazing switch

-------------------------------------------------

Thankfully, to make up for our glaring omission, Alan Shearer was on hand to showcase the pass on [Match of the Day](https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0026cn7/match-of-the-day-202425-21122024).

> “What about that for a pass! It was just an unbelievable pass, straight into Gordon on that left-hand side.”

It was an absolute stunner and we apologise to Bruno Guimaraes for not giving it the attention it deserved in the post-match write-up yesterday.
