Report: Manchester United-linked Nuno Mendes weighs up PSG future amid uncertain contract…

Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes has reportedly indicated he will take time to consider his future before he commits to a new contract.

Mendes initially joined PSG on a loan deal from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2021, before he completed a permanent move to the French giants a year later.

The left-back has featured in 98 competitive matches during his time with PSG, contributing to their attacking efforts with five goals and 13 assists.

Mendes has made 15 of those appearances during the current season, including starts in all six of PSG's Champions League matches.

While he may be a regular fixture in the PSG side, there is uncertainty surrounding Mendes's long-term future with the Ligue 1 champions.

Man United receive Nuno Mendes boost

Mendes has less than two years remaining on his current contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026.

The defender's contract situation has alerted Premier League giants Man United, who have identified him as one of their top targets for the upcoming transfer windows.

Man United have now been given a boost in pursuit, with Florian Plettenburg reporting that Mendes will 'carefully consider his future'

PSG are said to have everything in place to extend Mendes's contract with the club, but the player is reluctant to rush into a final decision.

The Portugal international wants to assess all of his options before he decides whether to sign a new deal or seek out a fresh challenge.

The update claims that Man United are continuing to keep tabs on the situation, even though there is still a 'strong chance' Mendes could opt to stay in the French capital.

Why are Man United interested in Mendes?

The left-back position has proven to be problematic for a considerable time due to the injury issues that have affected Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

As a result, Man United are keen to sign a new left-footed defender, especially as they want to find a player who has the attributes to play in Amorim's 3-4-3 system.

Amorim will be fully aware that Mendes has the capability to play as a left wing-back in his preferred system after he previously worked with the 22-year-old for one season at Sporting.
