Jamie Carragher has offered some fresh thoughts on the Premier League title race battle between Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arne Slot's side currently sit top but their lead has already been closed by the Gunners following their 5-1 win victory against Crystal Palace.
Reigning champions Manchester City lost again earlier in the day which leaves them in sixth and six points behind Arsenal. Though Liverpool and Chelsea are currently above Mikel Arteta's side, their experience in recent title races puts them in a great position with many of the belief they are favourites.
"At the moment we aren't there yet but they [Liverpool] have a few games in hand," Arteta said when asked if it was his side's best chance of winning the league. "Anything can happen, we want to keep our noses right in there, we are competing every single game. We are still not even halfway through the season."
The busy Christmas period could impact the title race significantly with most teams having four games in the space of two weeks. However, following those games there will still be 18 fixtures to play and that was something Carragher reinforced in his latest title prediction.
"There is still so long to go," he said on Sky Sports. "That gets us to the halfway stage [after Liverpool vs Man United in early January], I think if you're top there, you've played everyone and you've got a real good idea.
"I think with Man City being out of it, this is almost like a title race throwback if you like where we can't expect teams to win every week.
"You're getting mid-90s to late-90s for points, this could be mid-80s points to win a title. That is something that we want though as there's more dropped points, there's teams putting pressure on and you're thinking that someone could slip up and you've got a chance of getting in there.
"I think especially Arsenal and Liverpool will see this as a massive opportunity." With Man City winning four of the last five titles, a new winner looks set to be crowned in May. Chelsea are also firmly involved in the conversation having won their last five Premier League games in a row.
