Eddie Howe delivers worrying transfer message when speaking to Gary Lineker - Newcastle United…

· December 22 2024, 15:30

With it being the last weekend before Christmas and having just watched Newcastle United smash Ipswich Town we imagine that a large portion of the Toon Army were in too much of an inebriated state to have watched Match of the Day.

However, if they had managed to stumble home to watch the BBC last night, they may have seen Eddie Howe deliver a very sobering message when talking to Gary Lineker.

It's not often I watch Match of the Day on a Saturday night, I usually just skim through it on Sunday morning but I made an exception last night and it is something I now regret as I went to bed in a mood, stomping my feet like a toddler as I went upstairs.

Riding the high of watching Newcastle batter Ipswich 4-0, I was looking forward to seeing what Eddie Howe had to say after another excellent performance.

Eddie Howe - The bearer of glad tidings

Eddie Howe's Christmas message was to basically shatter fans hopes of any transfer activity

Everything was fine until Lineker asked the gaffer what Newcastle fans could expect in January to which Howe gave this soul-destroying answer:

“I think the message towards the January transfer window is that we probably at this moment in time in our journey, we need to concentrate on the players we do have and get the very best out of them rather than looking externally.”

I mean, I don't think we were realistically expecting big things in January, but Howe is basically saying we're going to do absolutely bot all and you'll just have to like it.

Eddie Howe has a habit of downplaying positive things

We know that January is an awkward transfer window, we are all also well aware of the issues presented by PSR, so it shouldn't be a surprise really, but it always stings that bit more when you get confirmation.

Fortunately, we are all also well versed in Howe speak and we know that the man couldn't lie straight in bed. He likes to prep us for the worst so if anything good happens it has a better impact.

At least that's what we're telling ourselves now so we can have some excitement in January at least.
