Ruben Amorim has excluded Marcus Rashford from the Manchester United matchday squad for a third league fixture.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been left out of Ruben Amorim's matchday squad for the third Premier League fixture in a row after a week when the England international had opened up on a potential departure from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils academy product has endured a turbulent few seasons at the club, struggling for both playing time and form. Rashford has plundered 138 goals in 426 outings for the outfit but has found the back of the net just four times in the top flight this season.

Manchester United took on AFC Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon and Rashford wasn't afforded a place either in the starting XI or the substitutes. The player last started for United against Everton on December 1, in a fixture that saw him bag a brace as part of a 4-0 romp.

Amorim has been tight-lipped on details as to why Rashford has fallen out of favour but has confirmed that his absence is not due to injury. Speaking ahead of facing AFC Bournemouth, he told Sky Sports: "It is my decision, and it always will be. I want to see the best of my players, and I try different things with different players, so that is my focus."

Arsenal have been widely credited with transfer interest in Rashford ahead of what looks to be a likely January exit from Old Trafford. Metro labelled a January transfer for Rashford as 'inevitable' with the Gunners potentially 'reviving interest' in the star. Those links were put to Mikel Arteta this week, who replied: "No, and you know that I’m not going to talk about players from other clubs."

Arsenal are known to be in the market for a new talisman following summer links with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney. Transfer interest in Leandro Trossard and another injury to Bukayo Saka also highlights the need for another option on the flank and there's no doubting that Rashford has the ability to play both wide and through the middle.

Marcus Rashford ‘ready for new challenge’

"When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."
