Pat Nevin was amazed by Moises Caicedo’s “ridiculous” winning of the ball during a Chelsea attack against Everton on Sunday.

The Toffees were firm in their defensive work against high-flyers Chelsea during a goalless draw on Sunday (22 December).

But it was the work of Caicedo to win the ball and start a move that ended with Nicolas Jackson being denied by Jordan Pickford after good work from Cole Palmer that impressed ex-Chelsea player Nevin during the game at Goodison Park.

Speaking live on BBC Radio 5 Livecommentary (22 December) Nevin said: “Brilliant play from Chelsea. Caicedo’s winning of the ball in midfield is ridiculous, he was third favourite.”

Caicedo was impressive in the first-half and ensured that he cut off the Toffees possession throughout the opening 45 minutes.

However, Sean Dyche will have been pleased to see his side go into the break at 0-0 showing again their defensive abilities against a very strong opposition.

In the second half, the Blues continued to stay calm defensively while trying to take opportunities in the spells when they had the ball to try and get a goal for themselves.

Although they were unable to break the deadlock, the Toffees will have been pleased to keep out their opponents and take another point from a strong opponent.

With a game against out-of-form Manchester City next to come, Dyche will be eager for his side to show their defensive capabilities again while surely wondering if they can be the next side to take advantage of Pep Guardiola’s struggles.

As for the new owners, they will no doubt be looking at their start to time at Goodison Park with a positive mindset.

In other Everton news, one player looks unlikely to start a game again this calendar year.
