James Tarkowski has said manager Everton manager Sean Dyche has built ‘something special’ at the club.
Everton held Chelsea to a goalless draw on Sunday to extend their record to five clean sheets in their last six league fixtures. The Toffees have held title-chasing Arsenal and Chelsea to draws in successive games to edge clear of the relegation places.
Everton have now recorded seven shut-outs this season, the joint-most in the Premier League alongside rivals Liverpool.
The club’s takeover this week has meant Dyche’s position as manager has come under scrutiny. However, Tarkowski lavished praise on the 53-year-old has cultivated ‘something special’ at Goodison Park.
“We had a tough game away at Arsenal last week, but today I thought we would get chances and in the second half we did,” the Everton centre-back said speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Another clean sheet on the board and we are building at the minute. We’re stopping top teams from scoring against us.
“I am proud of the way we worked today against a top, top side – a good point.
“They have got some good players, especially Cole Palmer, who we kept quiet.
“Under this manager [Sean Dyche] we have built something special. Defensively we have been good under the period that he’s been here.”
On the draw, Dyche told BBC Match of the Day that he believes Everton could have ‘nicked’ a win.
“I said before game Enzo Maresca has done a fine job and they have certainly shown the power they have got. We could have nicked it. It was two teams going at it in the right way. You have to be willing to put a shift in and I think that was on show today.
“Chances were minimal. They had a couple and we had a couple towards the end. We take a point. I’ve never not been proud of these players. We’ve come through a storm. I respect them.
“We want to be productive in possession but its not easy against these teams.”
