Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has been blown away by the performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first-half against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The right-back has been spraying passes across the North London pitch as Liverpool attempted to break down what has been a leaky home defence.

Neville is on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports and was almost instantly impressed by Alexander-Arnold when, ten minutes in, he picked out a wonderful pass for Mohamed Salah. "The pass is brilliant. To get the ball into that space was literally amazing," he exclaimed.

However, the best was yet to come when Alexander-Arnold's deep delivery was headed home by Luis Diaz for the opener. "The cross is something else. It’s precision," Neville added.

"There are very few players I’ve seen in Premier League history that can land it on a sixpence like that with that accuracy. It’s absolutely perfect."

Not finished with superlatives, the ex-United player continued: "De Bruyne, Beckham, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Gerrard maybe in his prime [can cross like Alexander-Arnold]." A good first half would get better when a cross into the area was flicked into the air by Dominik Szoboszlai only to be finished off by Alexis Mac Allister who beat the on-rushing Fraser Forster to head the ball in.

Mac Allister would be dispossessed shortly afterwards to allow James Maddison to pull one back. However, the better of the half belonged to Liverpool as Szoboszlai slotted home with a well worked attack.

Victory for the Reds this evening could be vital as they try to win the Premier League in Arne Slot's first season. Earlier in the day, Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Everton at Goodison Park meaning a win would move the Reds four points clear of Enzo Maresca's team.

They also continue to have a game in hand on the teams around them after the Merseyside derby was postponed earlier in the season.
