Mason Greenwood celebrates scoring for Marseille

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and full-back Diogo Dalot have shown his support for Mason Greenwood after the winger reached the next round of the French Cup.

Dalot started at right wing-back while Fernandes was in the No.10 role on Sunday as AFC Bournemouth trounced the Reds at Old Trafford. Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo all scored as United confirmed they would be in the bottom half of the table at Christmas for the first time since 1989.

Meanwhile, Greenwood scored his 11th goal in 16 appearances for his new club Marseille in a 4-0 victory over Saint-Etienne. Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

All these charges were later dropped. During last season's August deadline day, Greenwood moved on loan to Getafe before returning to Carrington at the start of this season.

Upon his arrival back in Manchester, the forward was informed by club staff alongside his father that a move away from Old Trafford would be sought. United eventually came to an agreement with Ligue 1 club Marseille for the forward valued at £26.6m.

After scoring on Sunday, Greenwood took to Instagram to celebrate with a post captioned: "Job done onto the next round." Wasting little time to congratulate the winger, both Fernandes and Dalot liked the post, as did youngster Ethan Wheatley.

Former United winger Anthony Elanga added: "That's my guy," in the comments which have been limited to certain accounts. At the time of writing, neither Fernandes nor Dalot have responded to Sunday's defeat.
