Newcastle United’s owners have had to think of creative ways to help the club navigate PSR regulations.
After the PIF takeover in 2021, there was a clear aim at St James’ Park – for Newcastle to rise to the top of English and European football.
The early results were fantastic with Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years under Eddie Howe.
However, the club’s growth has hit a stumbling block with the Profit and Sustainability Rules limiting the amount Newcastle can spend under their wealthy Saudi Arabian owners.
Instead of improving the squad, Newcastle ended the summer transfer window with a net profit after being forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to avoid a potential points deduction.

PIF fan zone has been a ‘rip-roaring’ success for Newcastle
With PSR hindering Newcastle’s growth, club chiefs have had to think of ways to grow revenue internally.
A new 60,000-seater stadium has been discussed at Newcastle, while the other option is a big St James’ Park expansion project.
Improving stadium revenue has been at the forefront of PIF’s off-pitch plans, but they have also been working on other infrastructure projects.

PIF and sponsors Sela funded a new fan zone near St James’ Park which was approved in 2023 and opened this year.
As reported by The Chronicle, the Stack fan zone at Strawberry Place has been a “rip-roaring” success for Newcastle United.
How much Newcastle United have earned from Stack Fan Zone
The fan zone has now been open for four months after its doors opened to supporters in August.
According to the Chronicle report above, the Stack fan zone has profited around £400,000 just in the week leading up to Christmas.
It is expected to bring in a total of £1.5million over the month of December in what is a major boost to the club’s PSR-busting project.

The report adds that £190,000 was injected into the club’s funds from one matchday alone when Newcastle faced Arsenal back in November.
It has also been host to a recent fan event where club chiefs such as Paul Mitchell and commercial chief Peter Silverstone were able to speak transparently to fans. A huge success for Newcastle heading into 2025.
