Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli got back in the goals against Crystal Palace on Saturday, turning home Declan Rice’s shot to make it 4-1 and effectively kill the contest.
Martinelli had been playing on the right-hand side in Bukayo Saka’s absence, and it looks like Mikel Arteta might need someone to fill in for Saka for at least a few more games in light of the winger’s injury.
So on that note, it was great to see the Brazilian performing so impressively, and he thanked ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright for his recent support after the game.

“You have played the game. You know how tough it is to be on this side,” Martinelli began. “I’d like to say thank you for the message that you sent me the other day. It means a lot to me.
“This is really good to score and win the game, and it’s an honour, as I said, to receive a message like that, the one you sent me. So again, thank you so much.”
Wright responded “It’s because I love you, Gabs”, to which Martinelli said “Love you, legend. Thank you.”

It’s not clear exactly what Wright said to Martinelli, and that will probably remain private. But whatever it was, it clearly had a positive impact on the 23-year-old at just the right time.
Martinelli could now be set for a run in the team on the right until Saka is back, and that’s a big responsibility to take on.
