Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot was being clever with his pre-match comments
Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slot was being clever with his pre-match comments
Jamie Carragher labelled Arne Slot's lavish praise of Ange Postecoglou as "hilarious" as Liverpool took advantage of Tottenham's gung-ho style.
The Reds left north London with all three points after securing a 6-3 success in what was a typical game involving Tottenham. Postecoglou's team are the Premier League's highest scorers, but are always capable of shipping a number of goals.
That proved to be the case with their Australian manager sticking to his style, which many have criticised. In the build-up to Sunday's clash Slot lauded the Tottenham boss, rejecting suggestions they could be deemed "too attacking".
The Dutchman said: "People talk about trophies, trophies, trophies and that is so important. For me, his brand of football is so much more important. If he can combine it with winning something that would be so good for football in general because then people can stop talking about 'is it too attacking?' How on earth can you play too much attacking football?"

He also added: "I think it is a privilege to be a season ticket holder at Tottenham and to be a fan of them at the moment because they play such a great style."
Carragher though felt that the Liverpool boss was actively encouraging Postecoglou and Tottenham to play in the same manner which they did against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup - a game they won 4-3 - but saw them hugely exposed at the back.
He said on Sky Sports: "That press conference on Friday from Arne Slot was hilarious. People thought he was defending Ange - I don't believe that for one minute. Slot was desperate for Tottenham to play the same way as they played Man Utd and they did. Liverpool could have scored 10. Everyone I spoke to, Liverpool supporters said it was obvious."
Liverpool were able to take advantage of Tottenham's style
Tottenham found themselves 6-1 down with more than twenty minutes remaining before goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added some more respectability to the scoreline.
Prior to that Liverpool had been able to take advantage of Tottenham's forward-thinking style, which often left their defenders out of position as their forward line prospered with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz both bagging a brace.
Postecoglou himself has often referenced their lengthy injury list and bemoaned the fact his style is cited as the reason they ship so many goals. "If people can't see the obvious I‘m not going to point it out. Make of it what you want, yes we're conceding goals," he said.
