James Maddison sends social media message to Newcastle star after masterclass

Newcastle United ended a good week in brilliant fashion on Saturday.

Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side smashed Ipswich 4-0 at Portman Road to follow up on big wins over Leicester and Brentford.

It was a brilliant display from Newcastle and naturally forward Alexander Isak will take many of the plaudits.

The striker scored a fantastic hat-trick against the Tractor Boys, a haul so good he was even applauded off by home supporters.

When Isak is on form, it’s hard to think of a better striker in the Premier League. Erling Haaland may be more prolific but the Manchester City forward perhaps does not boast the same kind of grace as the Sweden international.

Still, Isak is not the only player deserving of high praise.

Jacob Murphy also got on the scoresheet and was hailed by Isak for his latest outing, having also teed up the striker for his third goal with a brilliant assist.

James Maddison sends message to Jacob Murphy after Newcastle’s win over Ipswich

James Maddison – who was strongly linked with a move to Newcastle before joining Tottenham in 2023 – played with Murphy at Norwich.

When the Newcastle star posted an image on Instagram captioned: “Merry Christmas Mags”, Maddison responded with the word “player.”

Jacob Murphy is one of Newcastle’s most important players

There may be calls to sign a new right-winger and many of them are logical.

While not to say Newcastle can’t improve on Murphy, there is little doubting his value. Howe has consistently talked up how important he is, playing across a number of different roles when called upon.

Even if a new signing comes in, Murphy deserves the chance to compete for his starting berth.

Newcastle need him both this season and when going forward.
