Arsenal are reportedly preparing a substantial bid of around €75 million (£62 million) for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as they look to reinforce their backline in the January transfer window, according toFichajes.
The Gunners have grappled with persistent injury problems in defence this season, with William Saliba being the only consistent figure in the backline. Gabriel Magalhaes has missed a few games, while Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber, and Kieran Tierney have faced extended injury layoffs. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is also currently without Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, both of whom are recovering from injuries.

Arsenal have been active in strengthening their defensive ranks in recent transfer windows, bringing in players like Timber and Calafiori. However, the long-term absence of Ben White, following knee surgery in November, has created a potential opening for another defensive addition. Kounde, known for his versatility and athleticism, could be a key signing to bolster the team’s defensive options.

According to the report, Kounde may be open to a move to the Premier League as he seeks a fresh challenge. Arsenal are not the only club monitoring the French international, with Chelsea also reportedly interested in rekindling their pursuit of the player after failing to secure his signature in 2022.

Kounde, 26, joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022 and has since established himself as a vital part of the Blaugrana squad. However, Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles could force them to consider a lucrative offer for the defender. Arsenal’s proposed €75 million bid could be hard for the Catalan giants to turn down.
If the transfer materialises, Kounde’s arrival would provide a significant boost to Arsenal’s defensive lineup. His technical abilities and composure on the ball would complement the already strong partnership of Saliba and Gabriel.
Under Arteta’s tactical guidance, the Frenchman has the potential to elevate Arsenal’s defense as they aim to challenge for domestic and European honours.
