West Ham player makes startling admission about lack of professionalism

It has taken Crysencio Summerville longer than expected to get his West Ham United career off the ground.

Crysencio Summerville scored against Manchester United back in October, and we all expected him to kick on from there.

However, that proved to be a false dawn for the 23-year-old, who was signed from Leeds for £20 million in the summer.

The Dutch winger has looked very promising for us at times, with his blistering pace and direct playing style.

There is still plenty of fine-tuning needed for Summerville though, if he is to reach the next level.

The good news is that he is fully aware that his talent alone will not be enough for him to fulfil his outstanding potential.

Interestingly, the 23-year-old forward refused to rule out a move to his former club Feyenoord a few days ago.

However, I expect him to be at West Ham for years to come. Does he have the mindset to reach the top?

West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville on lack of professionalism

The former Leeds man has been speaking to Viaplay in the Netherlands.

Summerville was asked a wide range of questions, including how he chooses to apply himself off the pitch these days.

And the Hammers star openly admitted that he relied way too much on pure talent alone in the past.

“In the past it was more: there is talent, and I have been given a gift from God,” he said.

“But now it is more that hard work is also important, and what you do to get there. Not only on the field, but also what you do in terms of nutrition, rest and sleep, to be optimal in the matches.”

It’s great to see that Summerville realises that talent alone will not be enough to take him to the very highest level.

The 23-year-old possesses huge potential. He is absolutely rapid and has incredible movement.

However, his decision making is poor at times and he definitely is a bit lightweight at the moment.

In order to move up to the next level, he needs to improve on his final ball, bulk up in the gym and get better at choosing when to release the ball and when to hold onto it.

With the strong mindset and dedication that he clearly has, I have no doubts that Crysencio Summerville will go on to become a top tier player for West Ham.
