Lisandro Martinez has insisted he remains confident Manchester United can turn their results around

Lisandro Martinez has insisted he and his Manchester United team-mates remain '100 per cent confident' of bringing success back to the club.

The Argentine played all 90 minutes as Ruben Amorim's side were humiliated by Bournemouth on Sunday. The Cherries claimed a convincing 3-0 win over United, who will spend Christmas in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

It has been a wretched start for Amorim, who has struggled to turn United's season around. Sunday's game was his fourth defeat in nine games in charge, but Martinez is confident that his side's fortunes will improve soon.

"I always say in this kind of situation we have to show personality and character. We are playing so well and unfortunately, we couldn't score today. We have to believe. At this club, we have to win every game and we know that," he told BBC Sport.

"We are so angry with this kind of situation. We have to work on set-pieces especially. I believe a lot in this team and staff. if they don't score their first goal from set-pieces then it is a totally different game.

"We missed many chances today. We have to score. We know what we have to do and we have to change quickly. We know how big it is at this club. The expectation is very high, it's a process.

"You can see we are playing so well but we also concede goals and we have to work on that. I know the fans are impatient with us. We are the only ones who can change it. It's football and we have to accept it.

"We are 100 per cent confident that we will get success in this club. It's a process, I don't want to point the finger at one player. We win together, we lose together. It is a big pressure but we love that. I believe a lot in this group."

Amorim has accepted responsibility for United's struggles under his management. But he admitted it would take time for his side to recover from another damaging defeat.

“It’s my responsibility to coach them. Of course, we want to improve and everything in this moment is so harder. In a club like Manchester United, to lose 3-0 at home, it’s really tough for everybody," he said.

"Of course the fans are really disappointed and tired of this moment. You can feel it in the stadium, even in the first play, and I understand that. But we have to face it and we know what to do. So we have to improve set-pieces. It’s a really tough moment.

"We have to understand what the players are thinking in that moment when you suffer the 2-0, when you concede a penalty, when the box is controlled, so we’ll address that and we have to address that. It’s really tough for everybody to lose these kinds of games.”
