The 3AM take on the latest transfer talk from across the Premier League.

Liverpool confirmed their place as the Premier League’s Christmas number one with an eventful win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Given the approach favoured by Arne Slot and Spurs counterpart Ange Postecoglou, it always seemed likely the game would become a goal-laden affair and that came to pass as the two sides played out a nine-goal thriller that went the way of the Reds. Life at Anfield has been promising for Slot after he was named as successor to Jurgen Klopp during the summer and there are genuine hopes the Reds can land a second Premier League title this season. The January transfer window could provide the former Feyenoord head coach with an opportunity to boost his squad and one Anfield legend has suggested identifying a long-term replacement for left-back Andy Robertson could be on the agenda with Fulham’s Antonee Robinson suggested as a ‘top’ target’.

Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: “He (Robinson) was outstanding. He was the best player on the pitch. When you are going to Anfield and you are playing against Mo Salah – possibly the best player in the Premier League this season – and you come out of it with a Man of the Match award, that shows you how highly he is thought of. Yes, I think Liverpool probably will be shopping for a left-back in January and I’m sure he will be top of the list.”

The 3AM Verdict: “It would be safe to suggest Andy Robertson has struggled to find consistent form this season, despite Liverpool shining throughout the opening four months of the campaign. At 30, the Scotland international is heading towards the latter years of his career and the Reds could consider bringing in further competition and an alternative option. Robinson has been very impressive for Fulham and would be a shrewd addition based on his own form this season.”

Major claim made over Tonali’s £55m Newcastle United move

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has discussed the surprise sale of key midfielder Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United - and suggested he received death threats when the deal was announced.

The Italy international was an integral figure with his boyhood club and helped the Rossoneri to their first Serie A title just over a decade during the 2021/22 season. However, Tonali would be tempted away from the San Siro during the summer of 2023 when Newcastle agreed a £55m deal to take the talented midfielder to St James Park. The 24-year-old saw his first season as a Magpie curtailed by a lengthy suspension after he broke gambling regulations in his home country - but he has returned to contention in recent months and is now showing signs of finding his feet in the Premier League.

Reflecting on the deal, Football Italia have reported Milan CEO Furlani has made the claim in a 24-page Harvard Business School document. He is quoted as saying: “I was aware of the volatility that comes from the fact that the media and fans talk about our club, but I understood that there’s no way to escape what they say on TV or write in the newspapers. It really affects you on the bad days. And then there are even worse days, like when I receive death threats, for example, when we sold Tonali, one of our best players. It’s in those moments that I thought: ‘Okay, these are things they don’t teach you at Harvard Business School.”

The 3AM Verdict: “It hasn’t been an easy introduction to the Premier League for Tonali but he has shown his class in recent weeks and appears to now be a key part of Eddie Howe’s squad. There is no doubt the claims made by Furlani are awful and can’t be taken lightly - but it does give an indication of just how much love the Milan fans had for their star midfielder.”

Hammers linked with former Chelsea outcast

Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech has reportedly launched a shock tirade at Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk and wants to leave the Turkish giants during the January transfer window.

The 64-times capped Morocco international scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists during a four-year stay at Stamford Bridge - but left the Blues on a free transfer during the summer and resumed his career in Istanbul. Ziyech has scored eight goals in 34 appearances for Galatasaray over the course of a loan move and his permanent switch during the summer - but is now ready to leave and that is said to have triggered interest from West Ham United, who are said to be keen to add a winger to their squad during the January transfer window.

As per the Daily Mail, he said: “Galatasaray is over for me. I don’t want to play here anymore. I’m leaving in January. I’ve never seen a coach of such a low level. I don’t care that much. I want to be left alone, no matter what happens. I regret coming here.”

The 3AM Verdict: “Although Ziyech enjoyed some brief moments of positivity during his time at Chelsea, he never really convinced in the Premier League and it seems unlikely anything will have changed after a somewhat underwhelming stint in Turkey.”
