I saw‘special’ Chelsea player have his best game since joining the club vs Everton - opinion

There were mixed feelings as far as Chelsea fans are concerned in response to their last Premier League game before Christmas.

Enzo Maresca’s side saw their winning run in all competitions end, but their unbeaten one remain as they drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodisom Park.

Sean Dyche believed that Everton could well have nicked all three points on another day in a game where conditions played their part on the result.

There were a number of big defensive interventions from a number of players of the away side to keep out their hosts yesterday.

The biggest of those was a block from point-blank range from Tosin Adarabioyo to deny what was set to be a certain goal.

Tosin Adarabioyo has his best game for Chelsea vs Everton

The central defender found himself making back-to-back starts in the Premier League following a number of injuries in the position.

Tosin’s performance against Brentford helped ease Maresca’s woes, although yesterday’s display will have actually gone even further than that.

The Englishman put in his best performance since he made the move over the summer, after previously being a regular for their local rivals, Fulham.

Tosin was described as ‘special’ during his time at Craven Cottage, and now Chelsea fans are beginning to see the best out of him.

Chelsea in defensive injury crisis

In a time where Chelsea are going to be without Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile for what seems a while, someone was going to have to step up to feature on a regular basis alongside Levi Colwill.

The other recognised central defender option in the squad is Axel Disasi, however he was starting the game yesterday in the less-familiar right-back position.

Pat Nevin said he felt sorry for Disasi in his role, with the big defender clearly uncomfortable with some of the things being asked of him.

Maresca may be keen to let everyone know his side are not in a title race, but they are certainly big favourites to finish in the top four right now.

He has needed someone to step up with displays at the back for him though, and he can thank Tosin for doing just that in recent weeks.
