Leon Osman was blown away after Robert Sanchez pulled off a “fantastic” save to deny Orel Mangala as Everton drew 0-0 against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Toffees’ first major chance of the game at Goodison Park on 22 December fell to Mangala, who had a shot from just outside the box after Abdoulaye Doucoure laid the ball off to him in the first half.
The ball appeared to be creeping into the bottom-left corner of the goal, but Sanchez made an out-stretched save to keep the scoreline at 0-0, leaving Osman, who also provided his unfiltered thoughts on a controversy, impressed.
“Much better from Everton, clever move ball initially from [Iliman] Ndiaye to get this move started, but then they attacked with pace”, Osman said on the Premier League Productions‘ world feed (22 December, 2:40 pm).
“Put a bit of speed and tempo into their play, which resulted in a fantastic save actually from Sanchez, Mangala hit that brilliantly. Got break for Everton.”

It is worth noting that Osman also reserved praise for Mangala after that chance. The former Toffees star was impressed by the technique with which the midfielder took his shot.
He also tipped his hat to Iliman Ndiaye, whose involvement perhaps went unnoticed. The Senegal international, though, was booked for a cynical foul on Pedro Neto moments later.
The former Marseille man seemed like the only one capable of making a difference for the Merseyside-based club in attack, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jack Harrison failing to impress.
Mangala, meanwhile, had another shot saved by Sanchez towards the end of the game.

Ultimately, Everton will be the happier of the two teams, having picked up five points in their last three games.
They can be positive about claiming all three points against Manchester City on boxing day after keeping Arsenal, who they held to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday (14 December), and Chelsea in two consecutive games.
In other Everton news, the TFG’s arrival could leave the door open for this player to leave in the January transfer window.
