Robert Sanchez was pleased to earn a clean sheet on our final Premier League trip to Goodison Park, as the Spaniard produced important saves to ensure the Blues claimed a point in difficult conditions against Everton.
Sanchez was vital in ensuring we left Merseyside with a share of the spoils, making crucial stops in a game of few clear-cut chances. Rob’s finest moment came after the interval when he denied Jack Harrison the opportunity to break the deadlock with an excellent save to block the winger's goal-bound effort.
Our No. 1 knew what to expect from a tough and defensively astute Everton side and was happy to come away from the game with a share of the spoils.
‘It was a difficult game in very difficult conditions, but I think it’s a stadium that is always hard to come to as a team,’ Rob began. ‘I closed down Harrison and I was pleased the make the save.
‘I think Everton are one of the teams with the most clean sheets in Europe. In a game that gets complicated, the most important thing is not to lose the game. That’s what we did.
‘We got one point, we’re happy with the performance, everybody fought to win the game and we need to concentrate on the next one and go and get three points.
‘I enjoy these games because you get more time on the ball and sometimes it also gets rough and you need to fight. I enjoy it – I enjoy every game in the Premier League – but today we fought well.’
The games will come thick and fast for the Blues over the festive period, with a Boxing Day derby against Fulham and a trip to Ipswich Town coming before the New Year. And Sanchez knows we’ll need all the support we can get from both the squad and supporters.
‘I’m looking forward to the next few games,’ Sanchez said. ‘We have a big squad with a lot of talent and we’re fit and ready to play. ‘The supporters were great today, especially. They are enjoying our football and they are loving that and we’re loving having them along the way.’
