Marcus Rashford has been told that he could have handled his current situation at Manchester United differently by a former teammate.

In the 2022/23 season, Rashford scored a staggering 30 goals for Erik ten Hag's side. The bond between club and player, one that had been built up since the England international was seven years old, looked stronger than ever.

Flash forward to this week and Man United fans were left taken aback following an interview by Rashford calling out for a new challenge and a move away from his beloved boyhood team. United themselves are reportedly open to offers in the region of £40m for the player.

Ruben Amorim has made his feelings clear on the matter assuring supporters that Rashford is a Man United player and wants him to stay. One of the No.10's former teammates, Phil Jones, has sympathy for what he's going through.

He told the BBC, as cited by UtdDistrict: “I feel sorry for Marcus Rashford. I know there’s that little kid in him who loves playing football and loves the club.

“It has been a difficult period for him and a hard one to deal with. In hindsight, he will look back and think, ‘I might have been able to handle it all a bit better.’

‘It’s clear that he’s not enjoying football. He has to detach himself from the outside noise, and he has to get back to enjoying playing football again.”

The outside noise has been very loud for Rashford, especially from Old Trafford legends. Gary Neville labelled the forward 'unprofessional,' and Roy Keane said that Rashford had 'lost his hunger.'

The last football game the England international played in was United's 2-1 victory over Viktroria Plzen in the Europa League. Since then, he hasn't been featured in any of Amorim's last three squads.
