'Mystic': Gary Lineker shares Alan Shearer's scarily accurate Newcastle prediction

Alan Shearer made a bold prediction just moments before Newcastle United beat Ipswich Town 4-0.

Newcastle United will spend Christmas Day in the top half of the Premier League table and just five points off the top four after an emphatic victory on Saturday afternoon.

A 4-0 win at Portman Road means Eddie Howe’s side have won three consecutive games across all competitions, including the crucial Carabao Cup win against Brentford.

Alexander Isak scored a hat-trick to steal the headlines against Ipswich, while Jacob Murphy also extended his impressive run of form with another goal.

Ipswich fans even applauded Isak’s display, while manager Kieran McKenna praised his “high-level” display.

Alan Shearer made ‘mystic’ Alexander Isak prediction

After his hat-trick against Ipswich, Isak could match Alan Shearer’s record of 27 Premier League goals in one calendar year. Alexander Isak’s tally stands at 23 with two games remaining.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, Gary Lineker has revealed that Alan Shearer actually predicted that Isak would score his first Premier League hat-trick against the Tractor Boys.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: “I’m going to say, just before we start, there was a bit of chat on our WhatsApp group about Alexander Isak and fantasy teams.

“And you said ‘you should, he’s going to score a hat-trick today’ and lo and behold – Mystic Al.

“Hat-trick incoming, get ready for it!” Shearer replied.

Gary Lineker praises ‘silky’ Alexander Isak

After revealing Shearer’s impressive prediction, Lineker went on to praise Isak and label him one of the best in the Premier League.

“I remember sounding him out during the Euros or the World Cup in 2018 and thinking ‘hmm this lad for Sweden has got something about him’,” Lineker said.

“Then he went to Spain and scored goals there. He’s silky isn’t he? He’s one of those players that glides.

“He’s a really astute finisher. He’s very cool under pressure, he’ll score a lot of goals, I really like him. He’s definitely one of the best strikers in the Premier League.”

The Swedish star is going from strength to strength at Newcastle and to sum up his mentality, Isak told teammates he should’ve scored more against Ipswich.

After a relatively slow start to the season – by his standards – Isak has now scored six goals in his last four Premier League appearances.
