Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence enjoyed a brilliant last week as he started and impressed against Southampton in the Premier League and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup with the Lilywhites winning both those matches by a 5-0 and 4-3 margin, respectively. It was for the first couple of times that the Englishman was in the team’s starting eleven.

Postecoglou reveals ‘minor’ knock plaguing resurgent Tottenham star.
His superb displays in both fixtures were lauded by the Tottenham fans on social media, whereas Spurs podcaster John Wenham went as far as saying that it could be a decisive moment in the 24-year-old’s career at Tottenham Hotspur. [Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur News](https://www.tottenhamhotspurnews.com/exclusives/djed-spence-transfer-exit-claim-emerges-after-recent-tottenham-developments/), he was quoted saying the following about the player’s future.
> “He seems to have had a complete turnaround at Tottenham. Just last week I thought that he might leave on loan in January. However, he has now proven himself in a big game like the one against United, coming off to something of a hero’s reception at the end. It is also hugely beneficial to have a homegrown player, who is versatile, in the squad. Therefore, it doesn’t look like he will be leaving, and he is a real option now to rotate with Destiny Udogie and even stake a claim for his own position in the team.”
Given the injury woes that Tottenham have suffered this season, Spence’s versatility is a massive asset. Not only is he a natural back-up behind Pedro Porro at right back but he is even capable of playing on the left having done so instead of Udogie in the EFL Cup knockout clash against Manchester United last week. With Archie Gray and Ben Davies having to play in the heart of the backline, Spence’s adaptability has held him in good stead at Tottenham.
Nevertheless, it is hard to see just two matches entirely overturning the player’s situation and there is likely to be a conversation between Ange Postecoglou and him ahead of the January transfer window. A decisive cue between Djed Spence continuing at Tottenham Hotspur or being loaned out could be a berth in the Europa League squad, something which eluded him in the first half of the campaign.
