The transfer window opened, and Chelsea is expected to remain quiet this winter; Carney Chukwuemeka is the one who’s been more of a warming bench presence than a presence on the pitch at Stamford Bridge. Chukwuemeka is growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first-team football before rumored plans to leave the club this month. But here’s the kicker: Chelsea want an astonishing £45m for him. No, that’s not a typo.
Chelsea is looking to receive a total of £40 million to £45 million to sell Carney Chukwuemeka. (@JacobsBen)

They paid £45m for a player who played more Conference League minutes than Premier League minutes—you heard it right. Chukwuemeka might have made a mockery of that turning into the ‘Where’s Waldo’ of the box by now, as he’s literally as easily identifiable as Waldo is—bankside odds on driving home a Chelsea starting XI.
The Curious Case of Carney Chukwuemeka
You would think that Chukwuemeka’s story at Chelsea is some kind of bad rom-com. When he arrived from Aston Villa, there was excitement about him. Wouldn’t a pure romance be nice, a young, bright talent with the world already at his feet? What could possibly go wrong? Everything, apparently. Despite his promise, Carney’s career in blues has been spotty at best with little accomplishment.
‼️West Ham are among the clubs showing an interest in Carney Chukwuemeka, though there have not yet been any offers made.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, AC Milan is apparently making a beeline for a deal to bring him in when the time is right. Chelsea is determined to slap a jaw-dropping price tag on him, while an option to buy seems to be part and parcel of an agreement that Milan wants to embrace.
Frankly, considering Chelsea just bought him for half that amount and he doesn’t really deserve a place in that squad, £45m is ludicrous. Chelsea will need to budge; if they don’t, they risk pricing him out of the market altogether, something that might leave both the player and club embroiled in an awkward limbo.
Why Milan (and Others) Could Be the Perfect Fit
It’s not surprising that AC Milan showed interest. Serie A has become a safe haven for young, underused talents looking for a second chance (hello, Fikayo Tomori). As much as I loved Chuks in Sweden, the creative, dynamic, petulant attacking style that he plays would fit perfectly into a Milan team. Italy’s slower pace might also give him the breathing room to rediscover his form and confidence.
Also, Chukwumeka’s raw potential means other clubs will likely join the fray as well. Chelsea’s obvious desire for a sky-high fee could scare off the suitors quicker than a poor plate of spaghetti.
My Two Cents: Chelsea, Come on!
And Chelsea just shelled out £20m for Chukwuemeka, who they barely used, and now want to double that? It’s exactly the equivalent of buying a sophisticated gadget, unboxing it, and then putting it up for sale on eBay within days for double the cost. Genius or delusion? I’ll let you decide.
A Comedy of Errors
Chelsea’s transfer strategy here is a wild sitcom plot—an unachievable expectation, poor planning, and a central character on the spot. The risk to the club is of alienating a promising talent and failing to retrieve a fair fee. That leaves Chukwuemeka as a kid watching from the bench while the rest play on.
Carney Chukwuemeka: Why This Matters
From a fan’s perspective, you want to see Chukwuemeka able to ride his career in a city you reside in, able to thrive, and yet, he’s just sitting there. It’s time for Chelsea to make a decision: either use him or lose him. So if it’s the latter, let’s be reasonable with the asking price. No one’s paying £45m for a player that they have barely seen play.
And in the end, football is a game of opportunities, so Chukwuemeka should get his shot in Milan or wherever. It’s too late unless Chelsea realizes it.
