Liverpool head into Christmas Day top of the Premier League standings after an entertaining 6-3 win against Tottenham.
The Reds extended their lead to four points with one of the most incredible games of the season so far, with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah both scoring braces as Glenn Murray lauded Dominik Szoboszlai for his Liverpool performance against Tottenham.
With Salah breaking yet another Premier League record, Liverpool’s attackers were in inspired form in north London last night, with Arne Slot’s side showing why they’re the clear favourites to win the English championship this season.
Yet Jamie Carragher said there’s one Liverpool player who still isn’t performing well enough under Slot.

Darwin Nunez slammed after disappointing season with Liverpool
Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of last night’s match, the former Liverpool defender noted how poor Darwin Nunez has been this season for the Reds, with the striker making a brief cameo from the bench against Tottenham.
With Carragher already predicting Nuenz to be sold by Liverpool next year, the Uruguay international has once again failed to live up to expectations this season having signed for the Anfield side back in 2022 for a massive transfer fee.

And for Carragher, the former Benfica man isn’t good enough to lead the line, with the pundit saying when asked about Liverpool’s attacking options: “Darwin Nunez is not playing well enough. He scored in midweek but it wasn’t a great performance. Slot is just getting his best attackers back.

“In the past, it would have been Gakpo under Jurgen Klopp playing through the middle. But Gakpo is always on the left and Luis Diaz has been a revelation in that false nine, centre-forward position. But they have now got Jota back, so I think in two weeks it will be him at the top end of the pitch.”

How bad has Nunez really been this season?
Nunez’s Premier League career at Liverpool can be summed up into one word, chaotic, with the South American marksman establishing himself as one of the most entertaining players in England since making the move to Anfield.
Darwin Nunez’s 2023/24 Liverpool stats Games played Goals Assists
Premier League 13 2 2
League Cup 3 1 1
UEFA Champions League 6 1 0
Total 22 4 3
Yet as per Nunez’s stats for this season, even the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the striker’s game has seemingly disappeared, with the forward managing a measly four goals in all competitions for Liverpool and three assists.
Indeed, Nunez has struggled big time to adapt to Slot’s attacking system, and unless a miracle occurs in the second-half of the season, there’s a real chance that the Uruguay international will be off in the summer transfer window of 2025.
