Four Premier League stars will find themselves with their feet up and resting on Boxing Day after picking up bookings that mean they are suspended for the festive day fixtures.

A total of 39 top-flight players found themselves at risk of missing the day heading into the weekend with the majority remaining unscathed after staying on their best behaviour.

Boxing Day is an annual tradition as fans cram into grounds and crowd round television screens for the busiest afternoon of the season with teams up and down the country all competing.

Plenty of players will find themselves training on Christmas Day with some travelling out of their home towns to settle up base at a hotel for away fixtures the following day.

But a selection of stars at Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, West Ham, and Everton won't be making such trips after being suspended for Boxing Day.

Toffees full-back Ashley Young is one of those after the 39-year-old was booked in Sunday's goalless draw against title chasers Chelsea.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta will miss Boxing Day after getting booked against Brighton at the weekend

Ashley Young picked up his fifth yellow card of the season for this foul on Jadon Sancho

Young found his way into the referees book after fouling Jadon Sancho during the Goodison Park contest to bring around his fifth yellow card of the season.

That will mean the veteran will miss Thursday's afternoon trip to reigning champions Manchester City with Seamus Coleman expected to deputise at full-back in his absence.

Meanwhile, West Ham will be without key midfielder Lucas Paqueta as the Brazilian was also booked for the fifth time this season during the weekend action.

Paqueta started Saturday's 1-1 home draw against Brighton and found himself being disciplined less than 20 minutes into the action for a rash challenge.

Nottingham Forest defender Nicolas Dominguez finds himself in the same situation despite him only playing a cameo appearance off the bench in Saturday's 2-0 win over Brentford.

Ipswich's Sam Morsy is the fourth Premier League player that won't be tying up his laces on Boxing Day

BOXING DAY SUSPENSIONS

Ashley Young (Everton)

Lucas Paqueta (West Ham)

Sam Morsy (Ipswich)

Nicolas Dominguez (Nottingham Forest)

Dominguez was brought on as a 64th minute substitute at a time when Forest were comfortably leading 2-0 and was tasked with helping to stop Brentford pulling a goal back.

However, he was too eager when Brentford launched a dangerous attack and earned himself a yellow card for making a late challenge that was punished by the referee.

Ipswich's Sam Morsy is the fourth Premier League player that won't be tying up his laces when Kieran McKenna's side travel to face London on December 27.

Morsy was one of two Ipswich players booked in their 4-0 hammering by Newcastle last time out and will be unavailable after starting every game of the season so far.
