Carabao Cup semi-final dates confirmed as Arsenal and Tottenham learn fate

Arsenal and Tottenham have had their Carabao Cup semi-final dates confirmed. Mikel Arteta's side face Newcastle for a place at Wembley in March, while Ange Postecoglou's men entertain Liverpool in the last four.

Having earned a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace in the quarter-final, Arsenal were handed a two-legged tie against Eddie Howe's Magpies. And it's now been confirmed that the first leg will take place at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, January 7, with the second leg at St James' Park on Wednesday, February 5.

Meanwhile, following their topsy-turvy 4-3 success against Manchester United last Thursday, Spurs' reward was a clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool. They will host Arne Slot's side in the first leg on Wednesday, January 8, while the second leg is at Anfield four weeks later on Thursday, February 6.

If Arsenal and Tottenham win their respective ties, they will face each other at Wembley on Sunday, March 16. Should that scenario happen, it would be the first time the two teams have met in a major cup final.

Arsenal have beaten Bolton, Preston and Palace to reach the semi-final stage and last won the Carabao Cup back in 1993. As for Spurs, they won this competition more recently, beating Chelsea in the 2008 final at Wembley, and have beaten Coventry, Manchester City and United to get to the last four.

Both teams have three Premier League fixtures before their Carabao Cup first leg. Arsenal face Ipswich, Brentford and Brighton, while Tottenham have Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Newcastle.

Arsenal sit third in the Premier League table and are two points behind second-place Chelsea despite Saturday's thumping 5-1 win over Palace, while Spurs are 11th having lost 6-3 to Liverpool on Sunday.
