Matt Doherty was one of the best in Wolves win against Leicester City

It was a long-overdue joyous away day for Wolves, with the celebrations made better with it being Pereira’s debut.

While the goalscorers Guedes, Rodrigo Gomes and Matheus Cunha will earn the headlines, there was another player who shone brightly at the King Power Stadium.

This was Matt Doherty, who was handed a start by Pereira, seeing the Irishman frequently switching positions with Nelson Semedo to play to each other’s strengths.

The fluidity on the right side was celebrated as a result, with a lot of the Old Gold’s threat coming from that area of the pitch.

Doherty played a stellar 90 minutes, picking up an assist for his perfectly weighted ball into Gomes, capping off a disciplined display.

It’s refreshing to see the 32-year-old in such good form against the Foxes, following on from Doherty’s star performance against West Ham weeks ago.

Doherty and Nelson Semedo worked well together

Having made 351 career appearances for Wolves, there are very few more qualified to get the Old Gold through troubling times than Doherty.

The Ireland international has gone from zero to hero during his second stint at Molineux, progressing from a quality squad player to an undroppable starter.

When reviewing just how efficient both Semedo and Doherty were on the right side, Pereira has a clear instruction to not fix a perfectly working mechanism at the back.

Usually, there’s no room for Doherty in the XI however, the 32-year-old’s display at the King Power would suggest that there are now no grounds to drop the defender.
