Watch: Injured Barcelona wonderkid working hard to come back stronger in 2025

It has been close to four months since FC Barcelona teenage prodigy Marc Bernal suffered a disheartening ACL injury just three games into his breakthrough season with the first team.

Just 17 years old, Bernal made such an impression on manager Hansi Flick in pre-season that he was an anointed starter for the first three La Liga matches of the campaign against Valencia, Athletic Club, and Rayo Vallecano – all three of which the Catalans won.

However, it was late in the game against Rayo that the La Masia midfield gem suffered the serious knee injury which required him to undergo surgery at the hands of Dr. Joan Carles Monllau.

Close to four months into his rehabilitation, Barcelona shared a video of Bernal working hard on his recovery at the club’s training facilities today.

Given that Bernal suffered not only the ACL rupture but also an external meniscus tear in his left knee, his recovery timeline is expected to be for 12 months, of which he is now close to completing four.

Regarded as one of the brightest young prospects to have come through the ranks at Barcelona in recent years, the club are fully patient with the youngster and are making sure to support him through every step of his recovery.

In fact, the Blaugrana even renewed his contract back in September, tying him down to the club until 2029 with an improved release clause of €500 million.

The sight of him doing physical work four months after surgery is definitely a pleasing one, but there will be no rush with his recovery as Bernal continues to recuperate from a serious injury.
