Pervis Estupinian should have been sent off for Brighton against West Ham, according to Dale Johnson.
The Ecuador international fouled Max Kilman in the 84th minute of the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium and was handed a booking.
Footage showed that the challenge was off the ground and the Seagulls defender had his studs up but VAR Paul Tierney failed to overturn the initial yellow card.
However, writing in his weekly VAR Review [ESPN, 23 December], the expert said: “Estupiñán was off the floor with both feet, meaning he was out of control in the challenge and was unable to stop himself following through into the shin of Kilman.
“It should have been a VAR red card for serious foul play.”

West Ham will feel aggrieved
West Ham were furious with the decision at the time and their anger will not subside after seeing the incident again.
Playing against ten men would have been a huge advantage for the Hammers in the final stages of the contest but the incident was not even covered in Match of the Day’s analysis section, which baffled former referee Mark Halsey.
Estupinian is off the floor, his studs are up, he is out of control, it is a red card, there is no doubt about that and it baffling that VAR did not intervene for a clear and obvious error.

A win against a top-half team could have given the Irons a major momentum boost ahead of fixtures against Southampton, Liverpool and Manchester City in the festive period.
They can still take some momentum into those clashes following a victory against Wolves and draws with two top-half sides in Bournemouth and Brighton.
Lopetegui’s side are unbeaten in their last three league matches and could use that as a springboard to greater things.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are interested in a move for a former Chelsea ace that would elevate them to the ‘next level’.
