‘I have to…’: Vitor Pereira will be impressed by what Matheus Cunha admitted he did for Wolves…

Vitor Pereira made quite the impression in his first game as Wolves manager as the Old Gold beat Leicester City.

Wolves moved within two points from safety with a comfortable win over Leicester City.

Pereira received a warming reception from Wolves fans, who celebrated the new manager’s first victory at the helm.

Trusted in the starting lineup, Rodrigo Gomes and Goncalo Guedes scored, as well as the inevitable Matheus Cunha.

Matheus Cunha reflects on Leicester City win

For the ninth time this season in the Premier League, Cunha found himself on the scoresheet.

The Brazilian netted Wolves’ third of the afternoon, finishing cutely thanks to some positive work on the flank courtesy of Guedes.

Cunha is now Wolves’ second-highest Premier League goalscorer, sitting behind only Raul Jimenez.

While goals are an integral part of the 25-year-old’s game, the forward admitted that he put the work in at the King Power to contribute in other areas.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

“I’m happy because the most important thing is not scoring goals, but helping the team, but sometimes when you play, you’re thinking about scoring or assisting, but I also have to understand a little bit more of the game.

“In the last minute, I have to go back and defend at left-back. But this is the kinds of things that show you that football is much more than scoring goals,” Cunha said to Wolves’ official website.

The former Atletico Madrid star’s admission will bode well with Pereira, who would have noticed the player’s dedication to helping his side to the win.

It was a positive day for all involved at Wolves, as Cunha proved once again that he’s so important to the Old Gold.

The result against Leicester wasn’t only memorable for the Brazil international because of his goal, but for other reasons too.

One was that Cunha sported the captain’s armband when Nelson Semedo was substituted, an honour that the Wolves star appreciated.

Another reason might be that the forward proved one past comment made about him by former manager Gary O’Neil to be very wrong.

O’Neil was criticised for calling Cunha out for his supposed lack of activity off the ball, which couldn’t have been more wrong against the Foxes.

Weeks later, the player himself emphasised the importance of doing more in other areas, proving that he can offer what O’Neil once demanded from him.
