A recent report from SPORT has offered a comprehensive update on Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to renew their star players.
It appears the Catalans have already settled the renewals of midfield duo Pedri and Gavi, whereas Ronald Araujo’s extension is currently in the works.
One more player tipped for a contract extension is Inaki Pena, who has emerged as Barcelona’s first-choice ‘keeper following the injury of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Barcelona to work on Pena’s contract soon
As per the report, Barcelona are set to address Inaki Pena’s contract situation in the coming weeks.
The goalkeeper’s current deal at the Catalan club expires in 2026. However, Barça are keen on extending his contract far beyond that period.

That is because Pena has done exceedingly well since the injury of Ter Stegen. He has stepped up to the plate and has often been a key differentiator between the sticks, and Barça are happy with his performances.
Final decision to be made by Pena
However, it is up to Inaki Pena to decide whether or not he wants to continue at Barcelona, especially given his iffy past at the club.
Not more than a few months ago, Pena was not sure about extending his deal in Catalonia. However, since Ter Stegen’s injury, he has received regular game-time.
Hence, the goalkeeper’s outlook could change and he may feel a bit more strongly about renewing his contract.
This is relevant considering the fact that Ter Stegen is not getting any younger and Pena, to that end, could be well placed to permanently replace the German as the first-choice ‘keeper.
