Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Antonio Silva. The player is very highly rated and will cost a hefty fee. But, he can be lured away from Benfica if they feel the price is correct.
Antonio Silva is 21 years old and is very highly rated. He has been regular starter for Benfica since the past two seasons. This year he has been a regular member for the Portugal national team too.
Silva is tied to Benfica with a contract running until 2027. But, he is expected to move to a bigger club next year. The 21 year old has a €100 million release clause in his contract. Benfica will demand any interested club to pay the full price mentioned in release clause.
Silva has been on the radar of Chelsea along with his teammate Tomas Araujo. The Blues have a good relationship with Benfica. In January 2023, the two clubs were involved in a £105 million deal for Enzo Fernandez. But, the Blues have now joined by their Premier League rivals.
Man United join Chelsea in the race to sign Antonio Silva
According to TEAMtalk, Antonio Silva is one of the main targets of Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils are expected to make some key changes in their squad. They will enter the transition phase and many existing stars are expected to move away.
As of now, Harry Maguire is very heavily linked with exit. In addition, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are also likely to move away next year. This will open up space and United may sign atleast two more defenders.
Antonio Silva looks like a very good addition to the squad. He (21) and Leny Yoro (19) will secure the long term future for the club. In addition, Silva can develop a good relationship with his compatriot Ruben Amorim.
But, United will be unable to provide Champions League football and as of now it seems they can’t even provide any other European competition too. This may turn out to be a setback in the pursuit of talented defender.
