Asmir Begovic admits that there has always been a lot of “uncertainty” at Everton regarding their ownership situation.

However, The Friedkin Group have now finally put those worries to rest after completing their takeover of the Merseyside outfit last week.

The whole ownership situation has been a massively long and drawn-out process but with the American businessmen now assuming control of the club, things are starting to look brighter in the Blue half of Merseyside.

Speaking to BBC World Service’s Sportsworld in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (23 December), Everton goalkeeper Begovic shared his thoughts on what the new owners taking over means to the Toffees.

“A lot can change in a short space of time in football, and I think the last couple of weeks have been a lot more positive than maybe before,” he said.

“I think the fact that we’ve picked up a couple of really good results and good performances and then you have the news of the new ownership group coming here and the positivity – I think more than anything it hopefully brings stability.

“I think there’s always been a level of uncertainty for everyone involved in the club, not just the players, but the staff, the support staff.

“Definitely brighter times ahead, hopefully, but I know for myself as a player and being involved with the team it’s all about making sure we try and keep those performances and results going for now.

“Then, I’m sure everything else will take care of itself.”

The Friedkin Group are the start of a new dawn for Everton

While the Friedkins’ impact may not be all that noticeable this season due to them taking over halfway through the campaign, if they can manage to bring in a few new faces in January – PSR parameters permitting – they’ll already be getting on the right side of the fans.

The Toffees have already been linked with several players ahead of the January transfer window but the one that fans will perhaps be most intrigued by is their links with Rangers ace Hamza Igamane [Mountakhab, 19 December].

The Gers’ talisman has been in fine form for Philippe Clement over the last month or so and being just 22 years old, he’s the exact sort of profile Everton should be looking at recruiting.

While The Friedkin Group’s exact plans haven’t yet been shared with fans, it feels likely that reinforcement will be brought in during the January window.

If this does happen, it could send Everton on a winning streak and perhaps finally drag them out of the relegation battle for good, which, is likely all that fans would want from their team as a late Christmas gift.
