Report–26y/o Chelsea star emerges as Bayer Leverkusen target

Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly joined Juventus in the pursuit of Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi, according to journalistSacha Tavolieri.

The French defender was a key figure under Mauricio Pochettino last season but has found himself on the fringes of the squad since the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca.

This season, the former AS Monaco star has only accumulated 184 minutes of Premier League action so far. Even when he started, he has been forced to play in an unnatural position at right-back.

Despite being under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029,Disasi’s limited game time has fuelled speculation about a potential move.

Juventus have expressed interest in signing the France international but face significant financial constraints, making a deal challenging under their current circumstances.

The Serie A giants would likely need to offload players or secure creative financing to fund the acquisition.

In contrast, Bayer Leverkusen appear better positioned to make a move. The Bundesliga side are bracing for the possible departure of their stalwart centre-back Jonathan Tah, who has attracted interest from top European clubs.

Leverkusen have reportedly identified Disasi as a prime candidate to bolster their defensive ranks should Tah leave. Discussions have alreadytaken place between the German club andDisasi’s representatives to explore the feasibility of a transfer.

Disasi has been a bust atChelsea

Chelsea fans will be glad to see the back of Disasi after his unconvincing two seasons in west London. Even though he is terrific in the air and wins ground duels while being a solid/progressive player, his reading of the game is atrocious.

His lack of spatial awareness has been a problem every time he plays for the Blues. Maybe he can return to his best levels in Germany, but Chelsea supporters will not miss him at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are one terrific defensive signing away from challenging for the Premier League title, and the sale of Disasi will allow them to pursue that target. They need a transformative signing in defence a la Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool to fill the void left byDisasi’s potential departure.
