Ruben Amorim is ‘dissatisfied’ with his current options at Manchester United and has urged his bosses to sign long-term Chelsea target Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The initial excitement that was provided by Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford has given way to a familiar feeling of disappointment and frustration among United fans.

Manchester United sealed a morale-boosting victory over local rivals Manchester City last weekend but followed that up with a Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham and a humbling 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth.

Those setbacks mean United have won less than half of their games since Amorim left his post at Sporting Lisbon to take over from sacked Erik ten Hag.

Speaking after the Bournemouth defeat, Amorim insisted he knew the scale of the challenge he faced and was ‘ready’ to do what was needed to take United back to the top.

It will take time for the Portuguese to implement his ideas on the squad but he will also look to bring in some of his own signings and get rid of the deadwood, starting in January.

Sky Sport Germany say Amorim is already growing frustrated with his current options up front, with Rasmus Hojlund still struggling to justify his £72m price-tag and Joshua Zirkzee enduring a dismal first six months in the Premier League.

It is claimed Amorim intends to bolster his attacking options during the January transfer window and has made it clear to United that he would like Osimhen to arrive through the doors.

Osimhen has been one of the most consistent goalscorers in Europe over the past three seasons, scoring 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli.

A huge bust-up with Napoli boss Antonio Conte looks set to end his association with the Serie A club and Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan last summer.

The 25-year-old moved to Turkey just a few weeks after a switch to Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea fell through.

Chelsea had representatives in Naples on transfer deadline day hoping to clinch a deal but were unable to agree personal terms with Osimhen.

While Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal last summer, Napoli are able to recall the striker in January and then offload him on a permanent deal.

Manchester United will have ‘no problem’ reaching an agreement with Osimhen, according to Sky Sport Germany, but may struggle to strike a deal with Napoli, who reportedly value him at around 75 million euros (£62m).

The Red Devils are not expected to find that a suitable price as they are also in the market for a new midfielder and a left-back.

Trimming their squad would of course boost the transfer kitty and Manchester United are ready to sell Marcus Rashford, who has hardly featured under new boss Amorim.

United, sitting just 13th in the Premier League, see in the New Year with games against Wolves on Boxing Day and Newcastle United on December 30.
