Arsenal are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 this term, and they remain firmly in the race after 17 games despite being six points off leaders Liverpool.
The Gunners will hope the long-term injury Bukayo Saka has sustained will not derail their campaign, but they could look to strengthen their attack during the winter transfer window next month as manager Mikel Arteta badly needs to bolster his squad.
Arsenal have the best defensive record alongside the Reds right now having conceded 16 goals, but they may need to outscore their title rivals if they are to win the English top-flight at the end of 2024-25, and BBC pundit Troy Deeney is convinced signing Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak would have made a huge difference for the North Londoners.
The 25-year-old Sweden international bagged a hat-trick on Saturday to help the Magpies stroll to a 4-0 win over Ipswich Town, taking his tally to ten league goals in 15 appearances this term.
“The best striker in English football currently,” Deeney wrote in his Team of the Week column while praising the Newcastle star.
“The one who, if Arsenal signed him, they would win the league and everyone else would be in trouble. But they won’t do that because Newcastle need him and he is too important for them.
“Newcastle need to spend more money in and around him though or else he will end up moving to one of the big, big clubs.”
Arsenal have continued to keep tabs on Isak, and signing him next summer could be huge for their lofty aspirations going forward.
While Liverpool could potentially lead them by nine points should they win their outstanding game, the Gunners cannot be completely ruled out of the title race.
However, having someone like the Newcastle star leading their attack at the moment could have helped boost their title chances this term.
Isak has scored four more league goals than Kai Havertz, and Saka (15) is the only Arsenal player who has been involved in more league goals than him (14).
The Magpies striker ended last term with 21 league goals in 30 games, and he is reportedly widely seen as the leading candidate to fill the role as Arsenal’s new attacking focal point.
However, there are internal concerns at the club over his injury record given the intensity of manager Arteta’s style of play.
