West Ham United attempted to bolster their defensive ranks in the summer transfer window but there are still concerns at the back.
While there have been times this season when the Hammers’ defence has been solid, more often than not, things haven’t gone their way.
In fact, even though Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui spent a hefty chunk of money trying to improve their ranks across the board, at times this season it’s felt like they’re worse now than when they were under the watchful eye of David Moyes.
However, a recent report from Italian outlet MilanLive (23 December) has shared that, despite AC Milan’s demands of over £24million to sell five-cap England centre-back Fikayo Tomori, West Ham’s interest hasn’t been deterred.
Lopetegui’s men were heavily linked with a move for the Englishman in the summer as Steidten looked across Europe to try and find ways to better their chances of finishing in the European Places this term.

Why Fikayo Tomori could be the saviour for West Ham United
Of all the Hammers’ arrivals, despite the poor performances of the rest of their defence, Max Kilman has had some solid outings for the London-based club.
Although Jean Clair-Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos have swapped places with one another on more than one occasion this term, Lopetegui hasn’t yet fully solved his obvious defensive issues.
Tomori is an impressive player and the fact a move to the London Stadium could be on is something that West Ham fans should be excited about.

He’s often shown how defensively sound he is and the fact he’s already had experience in the Premier League would no doubt help him get acclimatised to the physicality of the league much quicker.
If West Ham want to climb the table, the addition of Tomori could be an ideal way for them to do that and perhaps allow them to focus on strengthening other areas in the summer.
